Chrysopoeia

Consider these graphics, slides taken from a presentation I made on this piece in 2020. The wedges laid over the score illustrate one of the primary, gestural motifs of the piece: a build up of energy toward a point of climax or rupture. This rupture represents a theoretical component of the alchemical process, in which the subject material is broken down (deconstruction). This gesture plays out at both the individual/gestural level as well as at the formal/textural level.
